Temporary Closure of Wellness Suite

Dear Community members ,

During a recent inspection of the Health & Wellness Area, we have identified serious safety, maintenance, and compliance concerns that cannot be overlooked. To protect everyone and meet our legal obligations as a community, I am obliged to make a difficult but responsible decision to temporarily close the Wellness Suite (steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi).

The facilities have suffered from long term neglect:

• The sauna is out of service.
• The steam room is in poor condition, with no risk assessments, supervision, or maintenance records in place.
• The jacuzzi has been refilled, but again without the necessary safety controls or monitoring.

It was particularly frustrating to find repair work underway on the jacuzzi without any consideration of the wider issues of access control, supervision, and maintenance. I have therefore halted the repair so the board can properly assess the situation. This avoids knee jerk fixes and ensures we reach a responsible solution to what is, in reality, a complex and potentially litigious matter.

Facilities involving heat, humidity, and water require strict oversight. Without it, they present clear risks—especially for children accessing from the changing rooms. And use of the steam room out of staffed reception hours. Continued use in their current state would expose both residents and the board to significant liability.

I want to be clear: this is not a permanent closure. It is a temporary measure to safeguard residents while the board considers the long term future of the Wellness Suite. Decisions on whether to reinstate, redesign, or discontinue the area will be made collectively, with resident input.
